Transportation Planning Organization

The purpose of the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Highway Incident Plan is to provide a framework in which to implement traffic operations and management measures which increase the abilities of local governments to respond to highway incidents in a safe and efficient manner. Incident Management is one element of a larger emphasis in transportation planning and engineering known as Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). Recent ITS measures have utilized advances in communications and computer technology in the management and control of traffic. The rapid exchange of data and information through new technologies benefit the traveling public as well as governments that must provide safe transportation systems that are cost efficient and protect the natural environment.
