What is GreenTrips
GreenTrips is a free Chattanooga program designed to promote alternative transportation. We connect you with educational resources, fun events, trip partners, and prizes to encourage you to walk, bike, take the bus, carpool, and work from home. Visit GreenTripsCHA.org to get started.
Why: GreenTrips highlights the healthy, sustainable transportation options we have in the greater Chattanooga region. When taking a green trip, you can boost your health by improving air quality and building physical activity into daily trips, save money spent on fuel and car maintenance, build community through shared rides, reduce stress from time spent behind the wheel in traffic, and have fun exploring new ways of getting around.
Background/Funding: Green Trips is a program of the Chattanooga-Hamilton County/North Georgia Transportation Planning Organization (TPO). The program aligns with regional transportation planning goals of reducing congestion and connecting communities in the region by providing multimodal travel options to activity and economic centers. Funded as a three-year pilot through the federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement (CMAQ) Program, Green Trips is led by Program Coordinator Zach Meredith, with support from Outreach Specialist Heather Sivley, both housed within the Strategic Long-Range Planning Division of the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Planning Agency. The Green Trips Steering Committee, which has assisted in program development throughout the life of the project, has grown and remains engaged in the effort to aid in the implementation and assist in engaging the public through publicized local events, social media, website(s) and print media.
