RPA Excellence Awards

The Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Planning Agency (RPA) is re-establishing the annual Excellence Awards Program this year to recognize outstanding local developments. The Excellence Awardswere established to honor groups and individuals who contribute toplanning excellence in our community. The Excellence Awards were last given out in 2005.

Development Awards Categories

Residential
Includes single-family and multi-family projects. (Affordable housing
may be given special recognition.)
Commercial/Industrial
Includes retail, shopping centers, and industrial and warehousing
development.
Office
Includes individual buildings and office parks.
Adaptive Reuse
Includes the rehabilitation of historic or non-historic properties.
Other
Includes public parks, recreation, and transportation related projects.

More than one award may be presented in each category.

Evaluation Criteria for Development Projects

Quality of design, construction, and visual appeal.

Compatibility with neighboring land uses.

Respect for the environment.

Concern for traffic flow and utility needs.

Innovative design or development concepts which are transferable to
other projects or places.

Adherence to adopted plans or policies.

Awards

The 2009 Awards will be announced at the January 11, 2010 Planning Commission meeting. This year we have 15 award winners. A copy of the winners including a picture and notable characteristics is included in your agenda packet. Winners will be notified prior to the meeting by letter and were invited to attend the January 11, 2010 Planning Commission meeting.
